Back home in Indiana for Christmas, Elias gave sledding his second try. This time we rigged up a rope to an old orange sled and pulled him up and down the driveway. My sister, Christy, decided to pull him down a small hill in the front yard. Elias was overjoyed on his first run down the hill. At the bottom Lindsay and I help slow him down then Christy pulled him back up the hill.
For the next run, Lindsay pulled out the video camera and I steadied my D200. We position ourselves at the bottom of the hill, and waited. The following tells the story from my camera:
Yes, we did forget to catch him. He actually went right between Lindsay's legs (as she continued to film) and flew out of the sled and face-planted into the snow. I was a bit stunned. Do I run over and grab him or to I take a few more pictures? By the time I took a few more shots Christy grabbed him and started to brush the snow away from his face. Needless to say, the sled made him nervous the rest of the day. Regardless, deep down inside it was worth it to him...I could see it in his eyes in the frame right before the crash.
